Dr. Frank Paynter (TA)
has a PhD in Electrical Engineering and is currently semi-retired from a research position at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. He started his love affair with soaring in the mid-1990’s and goes to as many contests as his wife of 30 years will allow. Before soaring came along, Frank was a power pilot and a national champion skydiver. Several years ago he became interested in the application of the new SPOT GPS tracker for sailplane tracking in general and for contest tracking map displays in particular, and collaborated with Mark to develop the Hawke Tracking technology. Current interests also include working with Nielsen-Kellerman Inc to help improve the ClearNav soaring navigation software, and a line of scientific visualization software.
